The checklist

1. Create your free Google Business ProfileOn your phone, open Google and search "add my business to Google", then tap Manage now. Sign in with the Gmail you use for work, not your personal one.

2. Use your real business nameType it exactly how you brand it, like "Glow Studio by Sarah". Don't cram in keywords like "Glow Studio Calgary Nails Lashes Cheap". Google can suspend you for it.

3. Pick the exact categoryChoose the closest match, then add the rest as extras. Lashes: Eyelash service. Nails: Nail salon. Hair: Hair salon. Brows: Eyebrow bar. Skin: Skin care clinic. Then add Beauty salon as a secondary.

4. Write a description people search forIn the "from the business" section, use the words clients type into Google, like "[your city] nails" or "balayage" or "brow lamination". Write it like a real person, not a keyword pile.

5. Choose "in person," not "online only"Google asks how your business works. Pick the option that says you serve customers in person, at a service area. Picking "online only" can get your listing suspended.

6. Hide your home address, set your areaWork from home? Turn OFF "show my address" and add the city and suburbs you serve (up to 20). You still show up on Maps, but clients never see where you live.

7. Verify with a walkthrough video (new for July 2026)Google mostly stopped mailing postcards. Now it asks for a short video, live in the app, unedited, 30 seconds or more. Show a street sign or landmark nearby, then your tools and setup. You don't need your house number or a shop sign.

8. Add every service with a priceList each service (a full set, a fill, a colour, a facial, a wax) with a price and a short line. People decide faster when they can see it, and it filters out the time-wasters.

9. Upload your best 10+ photosAll real, all yours: close-ups of your work, a few before and afters, your clean setup, a friendly photo of you, your logo and a cover. These are what make someone tap "book".

10. Add your hours and booking linkPut your real availability, then add your booking link (Fresha, Booksy, or your website) as the main button. That link is what turns a Google search into an appointment.

11. Get reviews, ask for a photo, reply to every oneText your happiest regulars for a quick Google review, aim for your first 5. Ask them to add a photo (Google shows those more), and reply to every review so it looks active.

12. Post once a weekUse "Add update" to post your latest work or an opening. Treat it like a mini social feed: go quiet and Google quietly pushes you down, same as Instagram.

13. Check you're liveIn a day or two, Google "[your service] near me" from your phone. When you see yourself on the map, you're officially findable.

Home-studio must-do: Step 6 is the one everyone skips. Set a service area and hide your address, or Google can put your home on the map for anyone to see. Do it before you add anything else.
